Beginner's Guide To Magic Tricks

At some point in time, just about every little kid wants to be a great magician. For me this time came when I was four years old. I know this might seem a little young, but I was a precocious child and ever eager to try anything new.

The circus was in town and that night we all went down to see it. The one thing that caught my star-struck four year old mind however, was not the bearded lady, or the tallest man, or even the lions or the elephants.

And although the trapeze artists did capture my rapt attention for a short while, I have to say that it was the Marcelo the Marvelous Magician who caught my mind.

I watched in awe as he stood there in front of everyone and performed trick after trick, without once failing. And then I looked up and saw the wonder on my folks’ faces and I knew then and there that I wanted to do that someday, I wanted to put just such a look of wonder on people’s faces.

Naturally at four it was a little difficult to grasp the pertinent facts of the magic world, and it was only after much badgering that I was shown a few tricks that my grandpa had up his sleeve (not literally mind you!).

But I was well and truly hooked, and I remember that for an entire year I practiced my small magic tricks with a will. Then along came the school years and I had to leave my magic behind for other more interesting things, but I never truly forgot it.

I practiced magic for most of my life after that, after the novelty of school and studying wore off, and in fact, I still do. I love the excitement of it, the look of wonderment on people’s faces when I do something totally unexpected and well…magical.

But most of all, I love being able to perform such feats of wonder, and sometimes I even manage to convince myself that I really did do all those things “magically”.
